Saint Laurent Sunset Bag Review + What Fits

SaintLaurentSunsetBag_SydneysFashionDiary

Today, I have a handbag review for you. I purchased this Saint Laurent Sunset bag last October and have been using it quite a bit. After owning for over 6 months, I think I can give you a pretty good review just in case you're thinking about purchasing one. The small (which I have here) measures 7.5" (L) x 5" (H) x 3.5" (D) x 22" (Drop). Let's start with the pros:

SaintLaurentSunsetBag_SydneysFashionDiary

- Leather: I said it before in one of my handbag reviews that their textured calf skin leather is incredibly durable and almost scratch-free. This bag requires little to no maintenance and is perfect for someone who's always on the go.
- Color: I love the burgundy color. It's perfect for Fall/Winter but also can also be used year round.
- The shoulder strap: Being on the shorter side, finding the right strap length is not always easy. This bag hits at just the right spot when worn as a cross-body or on my shoulder. The leather portion of the strap makes it really comfortable to wear as well. The updated version has a removable shoulder strap which is a nice option.

OTF 6-week fitness challenge :: Week # 2 & 3

Ladies, hope your week is going well. I am half way through my 6 week fitness challenge so I thought I'd share some updates/thoughts/tips:
- I've been going to OTF 4 times a week for the past 3 weeks. It's not easy but I do try my best to work out at least 4 times a week. My husband is also doing CycleBar and it's very challenging to find a schedule that works for both of us. That brings me to my next point.
- It's important to find a schedule that works for you and your body. During the second week, I had to take a 5:00 a.m class and a 5:30 p.m class. I didn't do very well during those times. To take a 5:00 a.m class, I have to wake up around 4:15 a.m to get myself ready. I don't care what you do, nobody is ready for an intense workout class at 4:30 in the morning. For the 5:30 p.m class, after a long day at work and stuck in traffic, I didn't do too well either. Weekend classes are best for me.

Thank you!

With the girls are out of school and family members are in town, it's been quite a busy week for us. I have a few handbag reviews are in the works but couldn't find time to finish them up. I am ending the week with a heartfelt note. I received several incredibly sweet comments lately and I just wanted to make a point to say thank you. There were many times I wanted to say goodbye to blogging but your comments are what keep me going. I said it before and I want to reiterate, blogging these days is a completely different game. It's a business. I promise myself that I am not going to play the numbers game and go against what I believe in to gain new followers, my blog definitely took a serious hit. I know I don't have a lot to offer when it comes to fashion tips and inspiration. I truly believe fashion blogs are on their way out. Everything has been done before and it's rare to find originality. As a blog reader myself, my favorite blogs don't seem as special anymore. With that being said, I am always in awe of those of you who take time out of your busy lives to leave me the nicest comments. From the bottom of my heart, I'd like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support. Your kindness did not go unnoticed. Happy Friday!

The classic LBD with a modern twist

RuffledShoulderDress_SydneysFashionDiary

I am always on the lookout for classic pieces with a modern twist and this dress is exactly it - The classic little black dress with a modern twist. This black version is no longer available but the white and the red are still available. It also comes in this gorgeous floral print which I adore. One thing I want to mention - This dress cuts very generous around the hip and thigh area. I had to slim both sides just a tad to make it more flattering to my figure. Outfit details: Shein dress c/o | Chanel WOC | Express sandals | Mirabella velvet lip pencil in red *very creamy*

OTF 6-week fitness challenge :: Week # 1

OrangeTheoryFitness_SydneysFashionDiary

As mentioned in this post, I joined Orange Theory Fitness's 6 week fit challenge. This past week was my first week and I am here today to share my thoughts. Let me start by saying I am a newbie to the fitness world. I eat whatever I want, whenever I want my whole life. I rarely look at nutrition labels and certainly do not count my calories. As I get older, I am a little more cautious about what I eat and try to pick the healthier options (no red meat, no soda, no eating after 7:00 p.m., fast food once a week...). I know I am skinny but I also know that I am not strong, not toned and have no muscle. I took a trial Orange Theory Fitness class in February and loved the variety of the workouts. When my local studio offered a 6-week fitness challenge, I jumped at the chance. I had my InBody scan on the first day. I am sharing my numbers below because I think some of these numbers might surprise you. They did surprise me.

InbodyScan_SydneysFashionDiary

Body Composition Analysis: I am currently at 104.9 lbs. Body weight is the sum of Body Fat Mass (28.8 lbs) and Lean Body Mass which is composed of Dry Lean Mass (20.3 lbs) and Total Body Water (55.8 lbs)

MuscleFatAnalysis_SydneysFashionDiary

Muscle Fat Analysis: These numbers surprised me. When I told my Mom I joined a fitness challenge, her response was "what do you need to lose? You have no fat" =) Well, the numbers say otherwise. Compare the bar lengths of Skeletal Muscle Mass and Body Fat Mass. The longer the SMM bar is compared to the BFM bar, the stronger the body is. The easiest way to remember is you want your chart to look like the letter "D" which means the length of SMM is longer than BFM length. Right now, my chart looks like the letter "C" which means I have more body fat mass than muscle mass.

ObesityAnalysis_SydneysFashionDiary

Obesity Analysis: BMI is an index used to determine obesity by using height and weight. PBF is the percentage of body fat compared to body weight. Again, these numbers surprised me. Healthy ranges is 18.5 - 24.9% (BMI) and 21-24% (PBF) for a female. I am at 19.2% (BMI) and 27.4% (PBF). Definitely have more body fat than I thought I do.

BodyFatLeanMassControl_SydneysFashionDiary

Body Fat - Lean Body Mass Control: Based on current body composition, the recommended change in Lean Body Mass and Body Fat Mass for a good balanced ratio. Based on these numbers, I need to lose 1.8 lbs of Body Fat Mass and gain 14.3 lbs of Lean Body Mass (that's a lot!). Basal Metabolic Rate is the minimum number of calories needed to sustain life at a resting state. Mine is 1116 calories per day.

The bottom line is I have quite a challenge to build lean muscle and get stronger. Will I get there in 6 weeks. I doubt it but I know I will be on the right track. This is my very first body scan and I am still learning all these numbers. Are they bad? Not really but there is a lot of room for improvement for sure.

OTF6WeekFitnessChallenge_SydneysFashionDiary

I also wanted to quickly share my progress from the past week. The physiology behind the OTF workout is to keep heart rates in the "Orange Zone" which is a target zone that stimulates metabolism, increases energy and burns extra calories for up to 36 hours post workout. Looking at the chart below, my cardio endurance clearly increases after each session. I stayed in the "Orange Zone" for only 2 minutes and 39 seconds the first time, 08:24 the second time, increased to 16:53 the 3rd time and I was in the "Orange Zone" for 18 minutes at the end of my first week. Huge improvement if I say so myself. That's a wrap! I hope you find this post helpful. I have not reached my goal but I am well on my journey. Thanks for letting me share!

Floral Embroidered Denim Skirt

GAPLinenShirt_SydneysFashionDiary

Embroidered clothing is one of the hottest trends this season and I can't say I am mad about it. My obsession with the trend continues with this gorgeous denim skirt. Would you believe me if I told you this skirt is less than $12? I didn't have high expectations but I must admit I am pleasantly surprised by the quality. Made from medium-weight denim fabric with beautiful floral embroidery detailing. I am wearing a size S here and it sits comfortable right at my natural waist. If you love the embroidery trend, this skirt is definitely worth taking a look. Outfit details: Embroidered denim skirt c/o | GAP linen shirt | Steve Madden wedges | Quay sunglasses *on sale*

Affordable swimsuit review (all under $15)

Today, I have a quick swimsuit review for you. A few of these I purchased for my daughter. She's approaching the pre-teen stage where clothes from the children's section is too kiddy for her but she can't fit into junior clothing just yet. Since Asian clothing runs small in general, I thought I'd give it a try and hope they will work out in her favor.

TwoPieceRedSwimsuit_SydneysFashionDiary

1. Mesh panel high neck swimsuit: This suit fits true to size. I am wearing a size small here. Both the top and bottom are fine. What I like: The color is eye catching and I love the mesh detailing. It's sexy without revealing too much. Racer-back swim tops are my favorites. The bottom has moderate coverage. What I don't like: The bottom is unlined. It's not see through but the quality could be a bit better.

AffordableSwimsuits_SydneysFashionDiary

2. Leaf print racerback swimsuit: This print is so on trend. I ordered this particular set for my daughter but it ended up being too big. What I like: The print is perfect for a beach vacation. A size small fits me perfectly. What I don't like: The inserts are quite stiff. They weren't removable and look unnatural on. I had to made a slit and took them out.

I joined OTF's 6 week fit challenge

WorkoutSet_SydneysFashionDiary

I first mentioned Orange Theory Fitness here and am excited (and nervous) to join their 6-week summer fit challenge. Yesterday was my first day and I can't wait to see where it takes me. It was a 3 hour orientation. OTF uses the InBody 770 to measure body composition. The machine gives me a fast and accurate reading of my lean body mass and other valuable measurements. I still have to learn what all those numbers mean and will share with you in a later post. I am thrilled to participate in this challenge and wanted to see if anyone is interested in my progress along the way. Outfit details: Workout set c/o | Nike sneakers | Quay sunglasses

Diorever Bag :: Pros & Cons

DioreverTote_SydneysFashionDiary

Today, I wanted to share my thoughts on this gorgeous Christian Dior Diorever bag. I fell in love with it the moment I laid eyes on it. There is just something so chic and unique about this bag that I couldn't stop thinking about it. I had a chance to try it on in person last November and finally pulled the trigger 3 months later. I've made a point of using it more often and here are my thoughts on this bag:

ChristianDiorTote_SydneysFashionDiary

PROS
  • Adjustable and removable strap: This is the only bag in my collection that has an adjustable strap. Comes to think of it, 3 of my Chanel bags, my Saint Laurent Sunset bag and my beloved Hermes Kelly do not come with an adjustable strap. Being a short girl, I really do appreciate this feature. The strap has 5 adjustable notches which make the bag more versatile.
  • Thick leather strap: The strap is 1" wide. I find the strap is very comfortable to wear and does not dig into my shoulder. I also wanted to point out that the strap is made of smooth calf leather on one side and pebble grained leather on the other side (just like the rest of the bag). How amazing is that?
  • Full leather lining: The bag is made completely out of leather inside and out. Just like the strap, the interior is fully lined with smooth calf skin leather and the exterior is made of thick pebble grained leather.
  • Impeccable craftsmanship: The craftsmanship of this bag is just simply exquisite from the perfect stitching to all the little details. I have no doubt this bag is really made to last forever (see how the bag is made). For how much it costs, Dior's quality is superior. Dare I say, it has surpassed Chanel. Don't get me wrong, this bag still costs me a pretty penny but it's definitely not in the $5K price range like a Chanel classic flap.
  • The reversible flap: What sold me on this bag is the reversible flap. To be hones, it's quite innovative. You can change up the look drastically by just opening/closing the flap. Either way, the design is sleek, modern yet classic at the same time.
