Teddy Blake Caty Review

TeddyBlakeCaty_SydneysFashionDiaryemailLadies, today I have a handbag review for you. A few weeks ago, I received a request from a reader asking my thoughts on Teddy Blake handbags. I always strive to produce content that interests you so of course I had to do some research. I was curious about Teddy Blake handbags myself. I reached out to the company to see if they would be able to provide their Eva bag for review purposes. As you might recall, I own the Hermes Kelly. I wanted to compare the Teddy Blake Eva with my Hermes Kelly. However, the color I chose is on back order so they sent me the Caty instead.

Before getting into the details, let's address the obvious - The Teddy Blake Caty looks identical to the Hermes Birkin without the logo. I believe the most asked question when it comes to Teddy Blake bags is - are they direct copies of Hermes?

The history: Teddy Blake handbags are handcrafted in Italy by Buti Pelletterie (their exclusive supplier). In 1984, the late Hermès CEO, Jean-Louis Dumas created the Birkin bag for actress and singer Jane Birkin. The design is based on the HAC (Haut À Courroies - first appeared in 1892). Buti Pelletterie has been in the business of making these beautiful creations since 1958. Both brands have been around for a long time. Teddy Blake bags do not say Hermes anywhere. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but to me, it's not fair to say they're replicas. They do not try to be a Birkin or Kelly. They have the Buti logo on their bags and the Caty also comes with a detachable shoulder strap (which the Birkin does not)

The quality: The first thing that I noticed about this bag is how well made it is. You know I am a huge fan of pebbled leather and can't get over how beautiful their leather is. It's so thick and smells amazing. The inside is lined with 100% genuine suede material. There is no denying that this bag is made with quality in mind. I chose the dark beige which is perfect for everyday wear. Their customer service is amazing. They answered all my questions in a professional and timely manner. FYI, for each bag displayed on their website, there is a stock message above the "Add To Bag" button. You should be able know right away the bag's availability and processing time. If there is no message, that means the bag is in stock and ready to ship within 24 hours. Each bag comes with a dust bag, a set of key/lock and a detachable shoulder trap. I am wearing the 12" version here and the size is perfect on someone my height (I am 5'2").

To answer Mai's question: Would I recommend Teddy Blake bags? My answer is - It depends: If you're not into Hermes but enjoy the classic style then what's wrong with enjoying a Birkin-shaped handbag? Even if you're a fan of Hermes but cannot afford nor willing to drop a huge amount of $$ on ONE bag then why not enjoy a high quality leather bag in the style that you like for a fraction of the cost? To be completely honest with you, I still cringe today at the thought of how much I paid for my Kelly. Also, if you like the style but are not sure if it'll work for your lifestyle then Teddy Blake bags is the perfect solution. You can test it out for a few months and if it ended up not working for you then you don't have to go through the hassle of reselling a $9000 bag. All that being said, if you have your heart set on a Hermes bag and can afford it then I say go with what you're truly after. Trust me, if your goal is to own a Birkin or Kelly, Teddy Blake bags will not fill the void. I absolutely will not think less or judge someone who carry a Teddy Blake bag (as long as you don't pass it off for anything it isn't). There you have it. I will do a side-by-side comparison between Teddy Blake Eva and my Hermes Kelly once I receive the bag.
