It's hard to get kids to eat healthy snacks. My daughter eats so little so I tend to let her eat whatever she likes. Although, I realize that wasn’t a smart idea. I am always on the lookout for healthy snack recipes to try at home. I also love to bake with her. Cooking with your kids is a great way to teach them how to eat healthier. I found
this recipe via
SkinnyTaste.com last weekend and decided to give it a try. These cookies turned out delicious and nutritious.
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup unpacked brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups quick oats
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
I followed the
original recipe but cut down the sugar and chocolate chips quantity by half. These cookies had just enough sweetness to satisfy but not too much to overwhelm. They are not only tasty but also have less than 100 calories each!
Directions can be found
here. If you're looking for a quick, simple, healthy snack for kids, I highly recommend this recipe.
If you have any good healthy recipes, please feel free to share!

Those look good. My kids doesn't like oatmeal but I love them. I would have to try this one out.
MMmmmmmmmmmm I wish I had apple sauce to make these. I usually love the recipe on the back of that Quaker Oats container ;0. I'll save this for later!
PS Did you know your images aren't pinnable?
@lisacng @ expandng.com Thanks, Lisa for letting me know. I just "turned" them on. They're now pin-able =)
