The Petite Shop - Adrianna Papell Lace Overlay Sheath Dress

Even though this blog is no longer 100% dedicated to petite fashion, businesses cater to this niche market will always have my support. A few weeks ago, I have had the pleasure of working with the owner of The Petite Shop and wanted to share my experience. Elizabeth started her own business as a dream in 2010. She was able to start hunting for petite designers and vendors beginning in 2011. By the end of 2012, the site was up and ready! The Petite Shop focuses first on petite specific items (66% of their inventory) and then on petite friendly items (33% of their inventory).

They specialize in tracking down petite specific styles that actually have a separate pattern from their regular counterparts so they fit shorter petite proportions flawlessly. For example, styles that are structured with seaming details or a tie/belt that needs to fall in the right place on your frame, or a hemline that has a detailed bottom such as beading or lace that could not be shortened without losing some of its beauty. If they can't find what you want, they have designers who work with them to create exclusive items separate from their regular lines.

What I am wearing:
Sunglasses: Kate Spade Gayla
Belt: H&M (buy similar here or here)
Clutch: Banana Republic (buy similar here)
Pearl Necklace: J.Crew (buy similar here)

This dress was named after Catherine (the finalist on this past season of The Bachelor) wore on the "After the Final Rose" episode. Just in case you don't know, I am the biggest fan of the Bachelor(ette) show. I've been watching the show for years. Elizabeth and I had fun chatting about the current reason. I am wearing a size 2P in this post. It was just a tad big around the waist but nothing a belt can't fit. At 5'3, the length hits me just above the knee. The color is absolutely stunning in person. This dress is made by Adrianna Papell. I've seen several of her dresses at Nordstrom and am always in awe of how beautiful they are. The lace detailing looks delicate and feminine but is extremely durable. The dress is 100% lined. Measurements for a size 2P (laying flat) as follow: Shoulder to shoulder: 13.5", length = 33", sleeve length = 17".

My only complaint is the exposed zipper. Exposed zippers on the back of dresses are really popular this season. I don't particularly like the trend myself. I think it looks kind of odd but that seems to be what everyone is going for. Lace is still big this season, it is being used as never before. This dress is almost identical to the popular Diane von Furstenberg Zarita (which I had a chance to try on as well). To be honest, I couldn't tell the difference between the two in terms of quality. The price tag makes this dress even more attractive. If you love a good lace dress, you really can't go wrong with this classic look.

Wow Sydney, this dress is absolutely stunning. I LOVE the color and the fit on you. I like how a belt gives it a different look, and if you ever did want it to look looser around the waist (as you mentioned) you can always have no belt. Great look. I really adore it and I will check out her shop as I am petite too - 5'2! xo

I can't get over how beautiful the color of this dress is!

Catherine has got to be one of my favorite bachelor winners. I was rooting for her during the whole finale. Is this dress inspired by the one she wore or is it the exact same one?

I have to admit...I'm a big fan of the Bachelor(ette) shows as well. I especially love the fashion on previous seasons!

This dress is so cute and I love it as a dup to the DVF version. The price tag is making me want to get the dress!

I can't seem to wear Petites very well. I'm small but my chest/shoulders are so much wider than a normal petite. However, I'm curious about this dress!

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Sydney,
That burgundy number is so incredibly pretty on you.
By the way, just wanted to check with you how your Tory Burch Robinson Double Zip tote doing? I have finally taken the plunge and have just ordered one online. But since then I'm having second thoughts as I have read some mixed reviews saying that the leather wears easily and the shoulder strap kinda pulls the bag in a way that might tear the leather!
I bought this as a travel work bag when I need to carry my 11" work netbook and IPad! So was just wondering if you think that the bag is sturdy enough to hold all that weight and also, since you've been using it for quite some time now, whats your opinion on the durability of the bag?
Thanks
Juneli from Fashionably Yours

@Juneli Hi Juneli!

My bag is doing fine and I still love it. Although, this specific bag wasn't meant for travel. I don’t carry my work laptop home every day. When I do, I use a separate work bag for it. I only use it for my everyday essentials. The bag itself is sturdy enough to hold all that weight if you use the handles. I wouldn't recommend using the shoulder trap when you have heavier things in your bag. I noted in my review - it’s one of the biggest design flaws for the TB Robinson tote. Other than that, the bag is beautiful and I love it. Hope that helps!

Sydney, you look absolutely beautiful! The burgundy color looks great against your skin tone and the belt really accentuates your figure. I'm a sucker for lace myself so I'll definitely keep my eye on this dress. Thanks for a great review!
