Today, I wanted to quickly review one of my all time favorite coats - the J.Crew double-cloth lady day coat. It is currently on sale for 25% off (which is rare). The promotion ends tonight so I thought I'd do a quick comparison to show the differences between petites and regular sizes just in case you're interested. I am 5'2" and ended up purchasing this jacket in a size 00 regular. In the other hand, the exact same coat in a size 00 petite fits my sister in law (who is right under 5' tall) perfectly.

Shoulder width: There is only an inch difference between a 00 petite and a 00 regular. I prefer my coats to have a little room for layers. The 00 regular fits me perfectly with a little room left for a thin/medium sweater underneath.

Sleeve length: It was the main reason that I decided to go with the regular size. I am not a fan of bracelet sleeves. They hit awkwardly at an inch above my wrist bone. As you can see from the photo above, the regular sleeve length is 2 inches longer than the petite sleeve length. The full sleeve length makes a huge difference in the overall look of the coat (On me: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4).

Overall length:  There is also 2 inches difference in the overall length between the 2 sizes. I'd prefer the petite length as the regular length is just a tad long on me. However, between the sleeve length and the overall length, I rather have the regular sleeve length. I own 3 J.Crew coats and all of them were in the same size. I notice this jacket is now available in size 000. Has anyone tried it? In general, I find their sizing seems pretty consistent. Hope you find this post somewhat helpful. I know this coat is a little pricier than your average wool coat but trust me, it's worth it!

I freakin' dislike (trying not to use 'hate') bracelet sleeves. so awkward. I think I'm a person that can benefit from the length of the regular sizing bc I'm 5'3" but I like the narrow shoulders (& probably narrow sleeves) of the petite sizing. I have long but skinny arms. I would probably still get the regular sizing though, mb in a 000. mb that's the size that is narrow in the shoulders but long in length. I need to be the guinea pig and test out this size.

Thank you so much for this. It really helped me decide if I^m going to get the classic one since the petite ones are all sold out. I really hope they will stock more petite sizes. Im under 5 ft btw😄
