First Impressions :: Chanel Vintage Jumbo Flap Bag

VintageChanelFlapBag_SydneysFashionDiary
As mentioned in last week's handbag chit chat post, I had the chance to see a few bags while visiting Store 5a. Today, I am sharing my first impressions of this gorgeous vintage Chanel classic flap. While I am not into vintage, I truly appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of vintage pieces (especially vintage Chanel bags). This bag was produced some time between 1986-1988 (the serial number starts with a 0) but I guarantee that you would not be able to tell this bag is 30 years old. The condition is impeccable. Just in case you don't know, vintage Chanel bags were made with real 24K gold hardware. They were no longer doing so in 2008. You can clearly tell from the photo above that the hardware has a deeper golden look to it due to the 24K gold plating. It definitely adds a touch of luxury to the bag. This bag has normal wear and tear but the overall condition is excellent considering its age

Why you should look into getting a vintage piece:
1. The piece is truly unique: What are the chances of running into someone with the same vintage bag on? Probably zero. How many Chanel classic flaps you see on Instagram daily? A lot =) If you're looking for something that is truly unique and has a little history, vintage is the way to go!
2. The quality is exquisite: We live in a fast paced society. Companies do not put much time and effort into producing quality goods anymore. Vintage pieces are built to last a lifetime (it's true in this case). The structure is still there, the leather still feels luxurious and the hardware is still shiny and beautiful. I spent a good amount on a handbag recent and the quality is absolutely terrible (but that's another story for another time).  If you're looking for a quality piece to pass down to the next generation, buy vintage!
