Petite Fashion Challenge # 9: Heat Wave Appropriate

It’s been a crazy week for me at work. Projects are due and deadlines are approaching. Thankfully, the weekend is finally here! On top of that, my laptop is completely dead for some reasons. I am not sure how to fix it yet. I guess it's time for an iPad :) On a cheerful note, my husband and I are taking little one to Kings Island for a fun day today. We won't be back til later this evening so I am posting a few hours early.

It’s time for another Petite Fashion Challenge! PFC # 9 is hosted this month by Elle of Fast Food and Fast Fashion. The challenge: "I challenge you all to create an outfit that accounts for the various environmental factors that plague us in the summer. I want to know how you dress when it's 90 degrees outside and 65 degrees inside"

I love summer in general, but this summer has been a brutal heat! The temperature has been in the mid 90s every day. However, it's always freezing cold in my office. Dressing properly for cold and hot condition is certainly a challenge. There are three things that I keep in mind when dressing for hot weather:

1. Shorter hemlines and sleeveless tops: You can get away with wearing shorter hemlines in the summer. A shorter hemline will also give the illusion of longer legs. In summer, I always go with a sleeveless base layer. It's great for layering under other pieces.
2. Wear breathable fabrics: Sticking with fabrics such as cotton and silk will go a long way in keeping you cool and comfortable in hot weather.
3. Lightweight cover-ups: I always put on a lightweight cardigan when I walk into the office to ward off the air conditioning chill.

What I am wearing:
Top: Express ruffle-front shell - XXS (buy similar here)
Skirt: Bebe pencil skirt - 00 (buy similar here)
Falsies: M.O.D.E.L 21 # 7 (buy here)
Cardigan: Gap lightweight cardigan - XS (buy similar here - love!)
Pump: Ann Taylor perfect leather pump (buy here)
Belt: Ann Taylor leather skinny belt (buy similar here)

I hope you enjoy this outfit. Don’t forget to head over here to check out the rest of the entries. Thank Elle for hosting this challenge!

Enjoy your weekend!

Sweet style, Sydney! You look oh-so-cute in the first picture. Rather than beat the heat, you're BRINGING the heat with this lovely outfit! I love the ruffled top the most along with the cute pumps. Amazing style expressed by you here. You're one of the sweetest petites anywhere in the blogosphere, and this outfit proves why.

I love the ruffles on that blouse Sydney, so pretty!....(And your eyelashes look amazing ;) I looked up the name of the purse pouches I mentioned for you, they're called "Kangeroo Keeper". Although I'm sure they aren't the only company making that type of product, but that's the brand I bought. I hope you guys have a great time at King's Island and stay cool!

Gorgeous outfit. I love how the cardigan and top look together. The colours combine beautifully.

Sydney, this top looks so great with the skirt. I think it might be the sleeveless factor with the shorter hemline that pulls the whole look together - I don't think this skirt would look as good with a longer sleeved top and the top won't look as good with a longer hemline. I wonder, was this deliberate?

As always, you look very elegant and I'm a regular reader!

Sydney, I love this outfit. Very nice. I especially love the dark wine color of the cardigan. When I went down and clicked on the "buy" link, it took me to the J.Crew site, not Gap. Is it a GAP or a J.Crew cardigan?

@Hillary The lipstick is a Prescriptives splurge L30. I am not sure if it is still available in store or not. I got it last year at Macy's. It looks more purple IRL.

@Vicky Hi Vicky, my cardigan was from Gap. It's old! All pieces that I wore in this post are at least a year old. The one at J.Crew is "similar" :)
