Birthday Girl :: 5 random facts about me

..So I turned a year older today. We already celebrated with my family and a few close friends this past weekend. I am going out for lunch with some of my coworkers today and just simply enjoying the day. If you've been following my blog for awhile, then you know I am a private person. I don't share my personal life too much on social media. We live in a judgmental society (sad but true). In this day and age, people are oversharing on SM. Sometimes, it's good to take a step back and realize it's OK not to share. At the end of the day, no one really cares about your personal life. However, in honor of my birthday (lol!), I am going to share 5 random facts about me. Before I start, I wanted to quickly talk about this dress. It's the same dress I wore in this post in a different color. I have 2 other colors coming in the mail =) Is it excessive? Probably so but I love it so much. For under $35, I highly recommend this dress.

1. I turned 39 today =( Yes, your girl will be officially over the hill next year. But the truth is (without getting too much into details)...My 30's hands down are the best years of my life. I found my identify and am in charge of my own happiness. My confidence hit an all-time high in my 30's. If there is one thing I’ve learned in the past decade, it’s to invest in yourself first. Everything I have experienced has shaped me into the person I am today. Not saying I won’t freak out next year but I take each day as a new opportunity to live my life to the fullest. Of course, we should always strive to be better but my life right now is exactly how I envisioned it and I wouldn't change it for the world

2. I change into comfortable clothes the minute I get home from work. I hate being in work clothes.

3. I came to the U.S when I was 19. I still have accents and sometimes struggle expressing myself in English. For the longest time, I saw it as one of my insecurities. I do put my best effort into improving my communication skills but no longer see it as a disadvantage. It is an essential part of me.

4. I am definitely an introvert: I enjoy my alone time. I am more of a listener than a speaker. You bet I am much happier being on the outside of a conversation looking in than being the center of attention. I like having fun but sometimes, I find meeting new people quite intimidating. I am a lot more reserved around people I don't know. Good food and a good TV show are all I need for a perfect night.

5. I am a clean freak (lol!): You can walk into my home any minute/day and I guarantee you there will be no dirty dishes in the sink. I wash them as soon as I am done using. I pick up every single toy every night (see how I organize the girls' play room here). Every Saturday morning, my whole family cleans for an hour. A clean home makes me happy and puts me in a good mood.

There you have it. Hope you enjoy this post. Cheers to the last year of my thirties =)

Happy Birthday Sydney! Can you please share on how to improving your communication skills? English is my second language as well and I'm having the same struggle as you had before. It would be great if you could shed some light on this. Thank you, Christina

Hi Christina! I think the biggest thing for me was to overcome the fear of public speaking. Before speaking, take a moment to gather your thoughts. Talking and understanding a topic that you're knowledgeable can also boost your confidence and enhance your skills. Slow down your speed, speak more slowly and clearly. Take constructive criticism well. I used to get mad at my husband all the time for correcting me =) I don't anymore because I know he only tries to help. I was afraid people will think less of me if I don't speak the language fluently but that's no longer the case. I'd love to be fluent in English but at the end of the day, there are ways to carry yourself with confidence and earn respect from others. Also, WordReference.com is a great resource. Good luck and thanks for stopping by.
