Fall 2013 Trend: Mixing prints

Mixing prints is one of the hottest trends that isn't going anywhere. Although, the trend can be tricky to pull off without looking like a hot mess. For this week’s collaboration, I decided to mix gingham and Aztec print to create an unexpected combo. If you're a long time follower of this blog, you'll know my outfits are rather simple and plain a.k.a boring =). I bought this skirt in October and had a hard time putting together an outfit. Although, I had fun playing with various combinations to create this look. Different shades of blue pulled this outfit together. I wore this outfit to work last week and got a few compliments. Review: Boden Petite Collection and a giveaway


Today, I want to share my thoughts on a clothing brand that is relatively new to me - Boden. According to Wikipedia, Boden was founded by Johnnie Boden in 1991 and initially launched with eight menswear products. In 2002, the company expanded to America. The London-based label has introduced their petite collection in late 2012. With a modern touch on classic styles, Boden offers quality apparel, shoes and accessories for men, women and children.

 

What I am wearing:

I originally asked for this chic tweed shift dress but the color I wanted is sold out in my size. I then settled for the Libby dress. I am so glad I did because it's one of the best fitting dresses I own and that says a lot about this dress. For reference, I am 5'2" and not short-waisted by any means. I was afraid the waistband would not hit me at my natural waist. I am so relieved that it does. I have seen nothing but rave reviews about this dress and it certainly didn't disappoint. Measurements of a size UK6P (US2P) are: Shoulder to shoulder = 12.5", across the waist = 12", sleeve length = 13.5", overall length = 31". I simply adore the fit and flare cut. It usually works well with my figure. The construction and craftsmanship of this dress are truly exceptional. The fabric is thicker than I expected (in a good way). It feels very sturdy and has substantial weight to it.



To dress up this rather plain dress, I went with gold accessories for a festive look. This look is perfect for any holiday party. When the holiday season is over, it works for the office as well. All in all, it's a polished little dress that I don't see going out of style anytime soon.

Splurge vs. Steal (under $30)

A pair of burgundy pumps is on my purchase list this holiday season. As much as I want to splurge on these beauties, Christmas is not the best time to shop for myself=). For a fraction of the price, Target has a great option. Some of the most comfortable shoes I own were from Target. I tried on this particular style in person and it was an instant love. They run true to size. If you're between sizes, go with the smaller size. These pumps have a cushioned insole that keeps your feet comfortable. The rubber out-sole offers good traction on the ground. Almond toes are my favorite. Stock photos don't do it justice. The color is a true burgundy shade and they don't look as shiny in person as they do online. These pumps are available in navy, classic black, nude, leopard print and red. Target is running a buy one, get one 50% off promotion right now on clothing, shoes and accessories. Two pairs of classic pumps for under $50 is definitely a steal!

Tartan has always been a repeated trend for many Fall collections. This year, tartan print is back and stronger than ever. I have always loved wearing tartan especially during the holiday season. It injects the perfect amount of festive spirit into my holiday wardrobe. This week, I put together a fun casual holiday outfit by pairing my newly purchased tartan shirt with a faux leather skirt. These photos were taken after the first significant snowfall of the year. This outfit is perfect for a casual holiday party or a night out with your girlfriends. Black Friday 2013: My top 5 deals

I hope you are having a wonderful time celebrating Thanksgiving with your loved ones. We're currently stuffing our faces with my Mom's yummy goodness. After lunch, we're heading out for our Black Friday madness. We're hoping to score some door-buster deals for the home. There are just so many deals happening today and it's hard to keep track off.
