Thank you!

With the girls are out of school and family members are in town, it's been quite a busy week for us. I have a few handbag reviews are in the works but couldn't find time to finish them up. I am ending the week with a heartfelt note. I received several incredibly sweet comments lately and I just wanted to make a point to say thank you. There were many times I wanted to say goodbye to blogging but your comments are what keep me going. I said it before and I want to reiterate, blogging these days is a completely different game. It's a business. I promise myself that I am not going to play the numbers game and go against what I believe in to gain new followers, my blog definitely took a serious hit. I know I don't have a lot to offer when it comes to fashion tips and inspiration. I truly believe fashion blogs are on their way out. Everything has been done before and it's rare to find originality. As a blog reader myself, my favorite blogs don't seem as special anymore. With that being said, I am always in awe of those of you who take time out of your busy lives to leave me the nicest comments. From the bottom of my heart, I'd like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support. Your kindness did not go unnoticed. Happy Friday!

The classic LBD with a modern twist

I am always on the lookout for classic pieces with a modern twist and this dress is exactly it - The classic little black dress with a modern twist. This black version is no longer available but the white and the red are still available. It also comes in this gorgeous floral print which I adore. One thing I want to mention - This dress cuts very generous around the hip and thigh area. I had to slim both sides just a tad to make it more flattering to my figure. OTF 6-week fitness challenge :: Week # 1

As mentioned in this post, I joined Orange Theory Fitness's 6 week fit challenge. This past week was my first week and I am here today to share my thoughts. Let me start by saying I am a newbie to the fitness world. I eat whatever I want, whenever I want my whole life. I rarely look at nutrition labels and certainly do not count my calories. As I get older, I am a little more cautious about what I eat and try to pick the healthier options (no red meat, no soda, no eating after 7:00 p.m., fast food once a week...). I know I am skinny but I also know that I am not strong, not toned and have no muscle. I took a trial Orange Theory Fitness class in February and loved the variety of the workouts. When my local studio offered a 6-week fitness challenge, I jumped at the chance. I had my InBody scan on the first day. I am sharing my numbers below because I think some of these numbers might surprise you. They did surprise me.

Body Composition Analysis: I am currently at 104.9 lbs. Body weight is the sum of Body Fat Mass (28.8 lbs) and Lean Body Mass which is composed of Dry Lean Mass (20.3 lbs) and Total Body Water (55.8 lbs)

Muscle Fat Analysis: These numbers surprised me. When I told my Mom I joined a fitness challenge, her response was "what do you need to lose? You have no fat" =) Well, the numbers say otherwise. Compare the bar lengths of Skeletal Muscle Mass and Body Fat Mass. The longer the SMM bar is compared to the BFM bar, the stronger the body is. The easiest way to remember is you want your chart to look like the letter "D" which means the length of SMM is longer than BFM length. Right now, my chart looks like the letter "C" which means I have more body fat mass than muscle mass.

Obesity Analysis: BMI is an index used to determine obesity by using height and weight. PBF is the percentage of body fat compared to body weight. Again, these numbers surprised me. Healthy ranges is 18.5 - 24.9% (BMI) and 21-24% (PBF) for a female. I am at 19.2% (BMI) and 27.4% (PBF). Definitely have more body fat than I thought I do.

Body Fat - Lean Body Mass Control: Based on current body composition, the recommended change in Lean Body Mass and Body Fat Mass for a good balanced ratio. Based on these numbers, I need to lose 1.8 lbs of Body Fat Mass and gain 14.3 lbs of Lean Body Mass (that's a lot!). Basal Metabolic Rate is the minimum number of calories needed to sustain life at a resting state. Mine is 1116 calories per day.

The bottom line is I have quite a challenge to build lean muscle and get stronger. Will I get there in 6 weeks. I doubt it but I know I will be on the right track. This is my very first body scan and I am still learning all these numbers. Are they bad? Not really but there is a lot of room for improvement for sure.

I also wanted to quickly share my progress from the past week. The physiology behind the OTF workout is to keep heart rates in the "Orange Zone" which is a target zone that stimulates metabolism, increases energy and burns extra calories for up to 36 hours post workout. Looking at the chart below, my cardio endurance clearly increases after each session. I stayed in the "Orange Zone" for only 2 minutes and 39 seconds the first time, 08:24 the second time, increased to 16:53 the 3rd time and I was in the "Orange Zone" for 18 minutes at the end of my first week. Huge improvement if I say so myself. That's a wrap! I hope you find this post helpful. I have not reached my goal but I am well on my journey. Thanks for letting me share!

Floral Embroidered Denim Skirt

Embroidered clothing is one of the hottest trends this season and I can't say I am mad about it. My obsession with the trend continues with this gorgeous denim skirt. Would you believe me if I told you this skirt is less than $12? I didn't have high expectations but I must admit I am pleasantly surprised by the quality. Made from medium-weight denim fabric with beautiful floral embroidery detailing. I am wearing a size S here and it sits comfortable right at my natural waist. If you love the embroidery trend, this skirt is definitely worth taking a look. Outfit details: Embroidered denim skirt c/o | GAP linen shirt | Steve Madden wedges | Quay sunglasses *on sale*

Affordable swimsuit review (all under $15)

Today, I have a quick swimsuit review for you. A few of these I purchased for my daughter. She's approaching the pre-teen stage where clothes from the children's section is too kiddy for her but she can't fit into junior clothing just yet. Since Asian clothing runs small in general, I thought I'd give it a try and hope they will work out in her favor.

1. Mesh panel high neck swimsuit: This suit fits true to size. I am wearing a size small here. Both the top and bottom are fine. What I like: The color is eye catching and I love the mesh detailing. It's sexy without revealing too much. Racer-back swim tops are my favorites. The bottom has moderate coverage. What I don't like: The bottom is unlined. It's not see through but the quality could be a bit better.

2. Leaf print racerback swimsuit: This print is so on trend. I ordered this particular set for my daughter but it ended up being too big. What I like: The print is perfect for a beach vacation. A size small fits me perfectly. What I don't like: The inserts are quite stiff. They weren't removable and look unnatural on. I had to made a slit and took them out.

I joined OTF's 6 week fit challenge

I first mentioned Orange Theory Fitness here and am excited (and nervous) to join their 6-week summer fit challenge. Yesterday was my first day and I can't wait to see where it takes me. It was a 3 hour orientation. OTF uses the InBody 770 to measure body composition. The machine gives me a fast and accurate reading of my lean body mass and other valuable measurements. I still have to learn what all those numbers mean and will share with you in a later post. I am thrilled to participate in this challenge and wanted to see if anyone is interested in my progress along the way. Outfit details: Workout set c/o | Nike sneakers | Quay sunglasses

Diorever Bag :: Pros & Cons

Today, I wanted to share my thoughts on this gorgeous Christian Dior Diorever bag. I fell in love with it the moment I laid eyes on it. There is just something so chic and unique about this bag that I couldn't stop thinking about it. I had a chance to try it on in person last November and finally pulled the trigger 3 months later. I've made a point of using it more often and here are my thoughts on this bag:

  • Adjustable and removable strap: This is the only bag in my collection that has an adjustable strap. Comes to think of it, 3 of my Chanel bags, my Saint Laurent Sunset bag and my beloved Hermes Kelly do not come with an adjustable strap. Being a short girl, I really do appreciate this feature. The strap has 5 adjustable notches which make the bag more versatile.
  • Thick leather strap: The strap is 1" wide. I find the strap is very comfortable to wear and does not dig into my shoulder. I also wanted to point out that the strap is made of smooth calf leather on one side and pebble grained leather on the other side (just like the rest of the bag). How amazing is that?
  • Full leather lining: The bag is made completely out of leather inside and out. Just like the strap, the interior is fully lined with smooth calf skin leather and the exterior is made of thick pebble grained leather.
  • Impeccable craftsmanship: The craftsmanship of this bag is just simply exquisite from the perfect stitching to all the little details. I have no doubt this bag is really made to last forever (see how the bag is made). For how much it costs, Dior's quality is superior. Dare I say, it has surpassed Chanel. Don't get me wrong, this bag still costs me a pretty penny but it's definitely not in the $5K price range like a Chanel classic flap.
  • The reversible flap: What sold me on this bag is the reversible flap. To be hones, it's quite innovative. You can change up the look drastically by just opening/closing the flap. Either way, the design is sleek, modern yet classic at the same time.

Floral split-sleeve rompers

Another day, another romper =) In my defense, this one is completely different than the one I wore in my last post. I wore this romper a few times already and got so many compliments. I love the floral pattern and the way it fits. I went up to a size medium for a more relaxed fit. Outfit details: Floral rompers c/o Rosegal *size M* c/o | Steve Madden wedges | Quay sunglasses

Striped one shoulder rompers

Hope you're all enjoying Memorial Day weekend. If you're a long time follower of my blog then you probably know I am a romper-addict (is that even a word?). No, seriously, I love rompers. I probably have 10 in my closet right now and still can't get enough. They're just so easy to wear, chic and make for an instant outfit. I am always on the lookout for  different styles of rompers and happy to add this little beauty to my "romper collection". I love the stripes, the ruffles and the one shoulder trend. The romper is unlined but made of heavy cotton fabric so no worries about it being see through. I am wearing a size S here and it fits me perfectly. I love it and can't recommend enough. If you're looking for a fun piece to jazz up your summer wardrobe, this romper is worth taking a look. Louis Vuitton zippy coin wallet review + what fits

I got this Louis Vuitton zippy coin wallet (pre-owned option here) for Valentine's and have been using every single day for the past 3 months. I thought today I'd do a quick review of the wallet just in case you're interested. I use it as my everyday wallet and can't imagine going back to my full-size wallet. It's the perfect size for all my small handbags.

Key features:
  • Measurements: 4.25" (L) x 3.25 (H) x 0.75" (D)
  • I really love the organizational compartments. It has a total of 7 card slots. You could easily fit another 7 cards if doubled up. It has more credit card slots than I'll ever need plus quite a bit of extra space in the middle for cash and coins.
  • The zipper is very sturdy and extremely smooth
  • The interior is lined with calf leather
  • It's easy to get the credit cards in and out (if you don't double them up)
The main reason I purchased this wallet was because my key fob fits inside perfectly. I do have a separate key pouch for my key fob. However, when I go grocery shopping or making a trip to the gym, I just put my key fob inside this wallet and that's all I need. I love the fact that it's compact but can still hold a lot. All in all, I am so in love with this little beauty and can't recommend it enough. Hope this is not the start of a new obsession lol

5 reasons why I enjoy shopping at Shein

I am fully aware that the quality of their clothing is questionable. However, I am sharing 5 reasons why I still enjoy shopping at Shein. Outfit details: Shein top *size S* | Shein jeans *size XS* | Steve Madden wedges | Quay sunglasses *my new obsession* | Gerard Cosmetics Skinny Dip lipstick

1. Allows me to stay on trend without breaking my bank: I love the embroidered trend as much as the next person but can't justify the Gucci price tag for such a trendy item. Plus trendy items might not last more than a season or two.

2. The selection is huge: Hundreds of new items added everyday. I enjoy spending 5 minutes each day just to browse and keep up with current trends. Also, since the selection is huge, I can find unique styles that I may not often see elsewhere.

Organizer for Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM (take two)

Sale alert: This popular BlankNYC suede moto jacket is less than $100 right now (more than 50% off). See it on me here
I ordered this purse organizer from an Etsy shop immediately after I got my Louis Vuitton Neverfull because I can't stand a bottomless tote. Today, I wanted to do a quick comparison between the one I purchased from 47thHeaven and the one I reviewed here from Purse Amie just case you're interested.

- Both inserts fit the Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote in a size MM pretty well
- They cost roughly the same (Purse Amie is $62 and 47thHeaven is $58 without any add-ons)

The most flattering one-piece swimsuit

Today, I have a quick swimsuit review for you. One-piece swimsuits are rising in popularity and no longer boring. I am always on the lookout for a flattering one-piece bathing suit and think I finally found one. I own several dresses from VIPme but this was the first time ordering bathing suits from them. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of this suit. It holds everything in place and fits in all of the right spots. The suit does come with removable padding. Comfortable tie around the neck and the print gives the illusion of a smaller waist. The black and white pattern is so chic and does not look matronly. The material is very nice as well and comfortable to wear. My favorite part about this suit is the super sexy back. The low back and lace up detail keep it looking stylish without revealing too much (wearing a size S). One thing I want to point out is the back has a little gap. Not sure if it's because my rear end is super flat (lol!) or the suit just has a little too much fabric. However, it does not effect the overall fit of the suit. I am excited to have this suit for our upcoming family vacation. The best part? It's under $20 =) If you're interested in this dress or anything from VIPme, please use code Sydney591 to get $5 off on orders over $50. I will do an affordable swimwear roundup in the very near future.

Summer Outfit Ideas :: Striped Shorts

I hope that everyone enjoyed a beautiful Mother's Day. I know I did. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I wore this outfit to my parents' house yesterday to celebrate the occasion. Stripes are everywhere at the moment and I am happy to add this little number to my closet. I feel like Shein is stepping up their game lately. I just received a new package from them and love every single thing. I find myself reaching for this top and this top once a week. These shorts are on trend and so adorable for spring and summer. I am wearing a size S and couldn't have asked for a better fit (it's also available in size XS if you're smaller than I am). The only complaint I have is that it's unlined. I was fine wearing light colored undergarment but a lining would have been appreciated. Cappelli Straworld straw tote

I really am looking forward to our annual summer vacation with the girls and have been collecting pieces here and there. One thing I recently added to my summer wardrobe is this super cute straw tote. I purchased this straw tote last year and have carried it to death. I used it on my vacation as well as countless trips to a local pool. However, one thing I didn't like about that tote is that it does not have a zipper. The new one does. My stuff stays securely inside. It's a medium sized tote with strong handle. It's not roomy enough to fit a beach towel but will for sure hold all your beach essentials such as sunscreen, sunglasses, makeup bags and much more. The bag is fully lined. I also love the fact that this tote can be doubled as a chic purse for a casual dinner out. Unfortunately, this is a new release and not available for purchase yet. However, you can find other styles available here. Outfit details: Forever 21 dress | H&M denim jacket | Cappelli Straworld tote c/o | Quay sunglasses | Michele watch

Wrap dress :: Work to weekend

Adding the 4th wrap dress to my wardrobe because I love the silhouette so much. Wrap dresses are classic and flatter every body type. Plus, they're so easy to dress up or down. I paired the dress with a pair of simple black pumps for work. It can be jazzed up for a night out with a pair of killer heels and bold lips. The quality surpassed my expectations. The fabric is medium weight knit. It's so comfortable to wear, not clingy and feels just like my GAP wrap dress (which I am still wearing). The wrap dress is one of those classic looks that can be worn year round. All in all, I am very pleased with this dress and would recommend. If you're interested in this dress or anything from VIPme, please use code Sydney591 to get $5 off on orders over $50. Outfit details: Wrap dress c/o VIPme | Michele watch | Chanel handbag | Express heels | Tom Ford sunglasses
