What I purchased from Peru

PeruPurchases_SydneysFashionDiary
Peru is known for being one of the leading producers of Alpaca fiber in the world. Before heading to Peru, a few genuine Alpaca products were on my list to purchase since it's kind of difficult to find this material in the U.S. Alpaca product is literally everywhere you go, on the streets, in every shop, at every tourist site and museum. However, not all products are created equal. Today, I am sharing a few tips to help you find the best Alpaca products if you're heading to Peru.
1. Where to shop for souvenirs in Cusco: As mentioned above, you can find souvenirs everywhere but the Sunday market of Pisac is the best place in my opinion to buy Alpaca products. The market has an incredible selection of Peruvian crafts. The market is about an hour drive from Cusco. You could spend hours here browsing.
2. Real Alpaca wool vs. synthetic material: Even though the tag may say that it is made from alpaca or baby alpaca wool, that may not actually be the case. Use your best judgment. Real alpaca wool feels cool to the touch. It's very soft especially if it's baby Alpaca. Alpaca wool is much heavier than acrylic yarn. Last but not least, if the price seems too good to be true, chances are that is the case.
3. Negotiate the price beforehand: Speaking of prices, everything is negotiable in Peru. After a couple of overpaid purchases, I learned to go low lol.  Start with offering half the asking price then go from there. Don't be afraid to walk away and try another stall. You can always shop around and return to the place that offered you the best price. We purchased 3 Alpaca blankets for 600 Soles ($200) each. One for us, one for my in-laws and one for my parents. A couple of scarves for 200 Soles ($70), a couple of ponchos for my aunts for 600 Soles ($200) and a few souvenirs for friends. It was an enjoyable experience and I am glad we were able to bring home these beautiful items.

Travel Bucket List :: Our Peru Itinerary

We're heading to Peru in a few short weeks to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. I am so excited! Our anniversary is in September but we're taking the trip before school starts to make it easier for my parents. This is the 6th destination on our travel bucket list (Hawaii, France, Italy, Alaska, Banff and now Peru). This trip took a lot of planning so I thought I'd break it down to several small posts. Today, I am sharing the itinerary. I will do several recap posts once I am back from the trip. Thanks to a couple of friends who have helped us tremendously when it comes to planning. We started planning in March (will tell you why in a bit). The itinerary below took us almost 4 months to plan (and to save) but regardless, we enjoyed doing it and can't wait to experience Peru.

Day 1: Getting there
  • Travel day - 3 flights (CMH - ATL, ATL- LIM, LIM - CUZ). Total travel time: 16 hours. We'll be arrived in Cusco, Peru approximately 6:00 a.m the next day
  • The hotel offers a free pick up from the airport. You can get a random cab from the airport for approximately 30 soles ~ $9.
Day 2: Spending the day in Cusco
Day 3: Heading to Ollantaytambo from Cusco
  • Natura Vive will pick us up from the hotel but if you don't want to book a tour, you can get to Ollantaytambo by bus. From the hotel, walk to "Calle Pavitos" to take a small bus from Pavitos St of Cusco. The bus will arrive at the main plaza in Ollantaytambo. Cost per person: 10 soles ~ $3. This trip takes approximately 1.5 hour via the Chinchero route.
  • Zip-lining in Sacred Valley: We booked a zip-lining tour with Natura Vive. I'll talk more about the zip lining tour once I get back.
  • After the zip-lining, Natura Vive will drop us off at the Ollantaytambo train station so that we can continue our journey to Machu Picchu.
  • Take VistaDome 603 to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town). It's a 2 hour train ride via PeruRail. Departs at 3:37 p.m. and arrives at 5:02 p.m (must be at the train station 30 minutes prior to start the boarding process). Cost per person: $86
  • Spend the night in Aguas Calientes. The hotel we'll be staying is 3-minute walk to the bus station heading to Machu Picchu. Still need to buy tickets for the bus at the Consettur bus ticket office in Aguas Calientes. This costs $24 each for round trip tickets. We plan to buy the tickets after we check in to the hotel so that we don't have to do it in the morning heading to Machu Picchu

Peru Recap :: Day 5 :: Pisac Sunday Market

PisacMarketPeru_SydneysFashionDiary
Today's post is taking it back to our trip to Peru. I still have a couple of posts in the works to share with you. You can read more about day 1 here, day 2 here, day 3 here (I am still working on a post for day 4). On our last day, we decided to explore the Pisac Sunday market. We had about 6 hours to kill before catching our first flight home. The market wasn't on our to do list but I am so glad we decided to go. I had the best time! The Pisac Market is one of the most famous markets in the Cusco region. Pisac is about 20 miles from Cusco. Buses and minivans go from Cusco to Pisac throughout the day. Tickets will cost $2 per person each way. However, you have to be at a specific station at a certain time to catch the right bus. We didn't want to risk being late for our flight so we ended up hiring a private driver. The driver took us there, waited 2 hours while we shopped, drove us back to the hotel for $75. Totally worth it. It was a 45 minute ride though the most beautiful scenery.PisacMarketPeru_SydneysFashionDiary
The Pisac market is a great place to pick up some last-minute souvenirs. There are so many vendors selling all things Peruvian: blankets, sweaters, hats, scarves, mittens and every sort of souvenir. It's a cash only market. Despite being touristy and having many stalls with touristic product, this market was still really fun to shop. I found some great finds for friends and family. I will share what I bought in Peru in the next post. I loved the fact there was little pressure to buy which made the looking more enjoyable. All in all, my husband and I had a great time. It was a fun experience! If you're visiting Peru, definitely check the market out. Outfit details: Levi's jeans | Madewell tank | Express sweater *available in petite*| Kånken backpack *available in 25 colors* | Le Specs sunglasses

Peru :: Bucket List Experiences

This is the last post from our Peru trip that we took last August - 6 months later, I was able to sit down and edit the footage from this incredible trip. Our time there was truly magical. There were many firsts on this trip: zip lining for the first time through the Andes mountains, tried Peruvian food, petted the adorable alpacas and experienced the unforgettable trek to Machu Picchu. The site truly is one of the 7 wonders of the world! Words and pictures can't explain how beautiful this place is. We are forever grateful for being able to cross the majestic Machu Picchu off our travel bucket list. My love for travel has been always with me. I don't get to travel as often as I would have liked due to family commitments, work commitments and of course, financial constrains. However, we love talking and planning our next destination. This trip was one for the books. No shopping and no dressing up for fancy dinners. I was in my hiking boots and workout clothes all week long but I loved it. I am so thankful for the experience. Nothing opens your mind, broadens your horizons and revives your body and soul quite like travel. I am thankful for the experiences and a wonderful travel companion. We are halfway through our travel bucket list (1. Hawaii, 2. Paris, 3. Rome, 4. Alaska, 5. Banff, 6. Peru, 7. Japan, 8. Greece, 9. Maldives and 10. Can't decide if we want to visit Thailand or New Zealand). Speaking of the next destination, we're planning our next trip to Japan with the kids in March 2021. Let me know if you have been there and your recommendations. All Peru related posts are here.

Peru Recap :: Day 3 :: Machu Picchu

MachuPicchuPeru_SydneysFashionDiary
Our full itinerary
Day 1 - Cusco
Day 2 - Sacred Valley
Continuing with my Peru recap. The next stop on our agenda was Machu Picchu. Hiking the Inca Trail and seeing Machu Picchu were on our bucket list for years. I've seen millions of photos of Machu Picchu on the Internet. However, being there was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! I could hardly put my camera away. There was so much beauty at every turn! Our day started at 5:00 a.m. From the hotel, we walked to the bus stop and waited in line to get on a bus. The buses are leaving as soon as they get full (only one bus at a time). The first bus leaves at 5:30 a.m. The second starts boarding after the first leaves and so on. There are enough buses for everyone. A round-trip bus ticket costs $24. It's about a 30-minute bus ride up to the entrance of Machu Picchu, waited in line to get into Machu Picchu. Then it'll take around 20 minutes to walk to the entrance of Wayna Picchu. Outfit details: Backpack | Jacket | Hiking pants | Hiking boots | Sunglasses

Peru Recap :: Day 1 :: Cusco

PlazaDeArmas_SydneysFashionDiary
First post of our Peru recap! Wow, this trip exceeded our expectations. The planning did take awhile but the effort has paid off. I can honestly say this trip was the most memorable trip I have ever had in my life. I will share my experiences throughout the recap. 16 hours and 3 flights later, we landed in Cusco. Truthfully, Cusco isn't my favorite city. It's very crowded and has become very commercialized. However, it's important to spend a day in Cusco to get acclimated before continuing your journey to Machu Picchu.
PlazaDeArmas_SydneysFashionDiary
What to do: After a long day of travel, we wanted to take it easy. There wasn't much on the agenda for Cusco. Tips: Be sure to take it very easy on your first day. You need time to acclimate. Even walking you may notice feeling out of breath. Drink plenty of bottled or properly boiled/treated water as it's easy to get dehydrated and that contributes to altitude sickness.
1. Plaza De Armas: The most popular spot in Cusco is the main square (Plaza De Armas). This is where everyone ends up in Cusco. It's a beautiful area where you can relax and people watch. Surrounded by plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. The cathedral is definitely worth a visit.
2. Cristo Blanco: Another spot that's worth visiting is Cristo Blanco (statue of Christ). You can see the statue from the main square. It's a 15-minute ride from the main square ($5 ~ 16 soles). Cristo Blanco offers incredible views over Cusco
3. San Pedro market: It's a really cool market! San Pedro market is huge and well sectioned. You can find anything and everything here from fresh fruits, raw meats, dried fruits, food and Peruvian textiles. This is a great place to buy souvenirs. Buy some snacks here to take with you to Machu Picchu. I highly recommend nuts and dried fruits. We had a chance to visit Pisac market on the last day and I prefer Pisac market over San Pedro market. I will talk more about Pisac market in a later post.

February Recap :: March Plans

BurberryJacket_SydneysFashionDiary
February goals:
- Learn something new: I went ice skating for the first time last month. I thought I'd have no problem transitioning from skiing to ice-skating. Boy, was I wrong. I had a difficult time balancing myself. It was fun regardless. Hopefully, I'll do better next time.
- Finalize our summer vacation: Our trip to Aruba is booked! The kids can't wait to see the flamingos in person. We will be staying at the Renaissance hotel. I am thrilled to find out that there is a Starbucks on site and the Renaissance mall next to the hotel (what??)
- Re-paint Madelyn's bedroom: Unfortunately, we didn't have time to get this done. My husband traveled quite a bit for work in February. I am not sure whether or not we have time to get it done this month
- Achieve a financial goal: We achieved a financial goal that we set out and I am very proud of it. I shared a few financial tips here if you're interested.
- February purchases: I spent $30 on a few cheap and cheerful pieces last month (the bodysuit in this post and 2 pairs of earrings). I wear stud earrings everyday so I picked up 2 fun pairs to spice up my outfits. Basically, I spent $30 so far in 2019 =)

AffordableEarrings_SydneysFashionDiary
Monthly goals:
- File income tax: I always do our own taxes. My goal is to get it done this weekend
- Purge and organize my closet: My closet is an absolute mess at the moment =( I need to spend a few hours purging and organizing it.
- Finalize our Peru trip: My goal is to finish booking our trip to Peru by the end of this month. We already figured out all the details but I still need to make hotel reservations and purchase train tickets. I can't wait to share the details with you.

Looking forward to:
- Celebrate my Mom's birthday: We're celebrating my Mom's birthday this weekend. She'll be 64!
- Celebrate my husband's birthday: Hubby is also celebrating his birthday at the end of the month. I am still looking for fun ideas to celebrate his birthday.
- Spend time with the kids during spring break: Looking forward to warmer weather and spending times with my kids during spring break. Since we already have 3 trips planned this year, we're staying home for spring break

What I bought and packed for a week in Peru

WhatToPackForPeru_SydneysFashionDiary
Sharing what I bought and packed for our Peru trip. There was a lot to take into consideration when it comes to packing for this trip. The key is to pack for a variety of weather conditions. The weather ranges from the intense sun during the day, the cold mountain nights, and the heat and humidity of the Amazon Basin. Dressing in layers in the way to deal with the extremes that Peruvian weather is known for. Below are what I packed in my suitcase:

What I got for Christmas 2020

Hope everyone had wonderful holidays. Yesterday was my first day back to work (a.k.a my closet) after a 2-week break. Let me tell you, it was rough. Everyone in my team sounded so sleepy on the 9:00 a.m. call =)  Today, I am here to share my annual "What I got for Christmas" post. I love watching this type of video on YouTube. Sometimes, these videos give me some really good gift ideas for next Christmas. Despite unexpected challenges in 2020, we pushed through obstacles and achieved our goals together as a family. A month before Christmas, my husband asked what I would like for Christmas and to be honest, I literally had no idea. It's been a strange year. We are not going to anywhere nor seeing anyone so all my designer items are collecting dust in my closet. There is no reason for me to acquire more so I asked for comfy stuff and a few things for the house. Starting off with what my husband got me for Christmas.
WhatIGotForChristmas2020_SydneysFashionDiary (1)
1. Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer: I am a fan of the brand. He got me this multi-cooker years ago for Mother's Day. I accidently destroyed it. He went out and got me another one because he knows how much I use it. For Christmas, he got me this Breville smart oven & air fryer combination. Sadly, the estimated delivery date is April 1st. Never thought I have to wait 4 months for an oven =) We don't eat fried foods regularly but if you have a list of delicious and healthy air fryer recipes, I would love to know.

Peru Recap :: Day 2 :: Sacred Valley Zip Line Experience

ScaredValleyPeru_SydneysFashionDiary
Our full itinerary here
First day in Cusco here

We spent the first night in Cusco. Woke up the next morning around 7:00 a.m to get ready for a full day of adventure. We booked a zip lining tour with Natura Vive. Full disclosure: I have never been zip lining before and this was my very first time doing it. Natura Vive picked us up from our hotel in Cusco at 8:00 a.m and dropped us off at the train station in Ollantaytambo around 3:00 p.m so that we can catch the train to Machu Picchu. The zip line is in Urubamba which is about  45 minutes drive from Cusco. There are 7 zip lines ranging from 500 feet to 2300 feet long. The longest line took 45 seconds from start to finish. For some reason, I thought there is a chairlift ride to the top of the mountain. I didn't know that I had to climb up to the zip line's starting point high on the mountainside until we got to the base camp. I wasn't going to do it but my husband gave me a pep talk, I decided to sign my life away and just went with it. I am so glad I did because it was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. The experience was beyond exhilarating. It's something I'll be talking about for the rest of my life.

25% off items that never go on sale :: Canada Goose, Jo Malone, Charlotte Tilbury

I know this is such a strange and confusing time to talk about shopping. However, Nordstrom is offering an incredible deal on items that never ever go on sale. If you need a pick me up, check out my picks below. Take care, everyone!
NordstromSale_SydneysFashionDiary
1. Canada Goose outerwear *25% off* - This never happens in the past. These parkas never go on sale. If you've thinking about picking one, this is a great time to do so. Read my review here
2. Barefoot Dreams collection: The entire collection is 25% off now. If you own of of their cardigans, you know how amazing it is. These pieces go on sale probably only twice a year.
3. Charlotte Tilbury makeup products: The entire line is also on sale. Again, their makeup products never go on sale. I purchased the popular Pillow Talk lipstick and lip liner last year and I am hooked.
4. Fjällräven Kånken backpack: I purchased this exact color for my trip to Peru (on me) and this backpack has been a dream. It's so durable and practical. Perfect for any outdoor activities
5. The entire line of Jo Malone London: You know how I feel about Jo Malone perfume. I talked about my signature scent here. They never ever go on sale until now.
6. Longchamp bags: Another tried and true closet favorite. I own several Longchamp bags and I seriously love them all. Take advantage of the sale now. The entire line is 25% off.
7. Patagonia puffer jacket: I purchased this nano puff jacket last year as my running jacket. It has big pockets, lightweight yet keep me so warm during those windy days. Again, Patagonia puffer jackets rarely go on sale.
8. Levi's jeans: My beloved jeans are 30% off right now (on me)
9. My Michele watch is also included in the sale (very rare!). See it on me. I purchased it 3 years ago and it's still going strong.

2018 :: 2019

Another year has come and gone. If I have to describe 2018 in one word, it would be "spendy". Started with our new bedroom in Jan, then crossed Banff off our travel bucket list in March, broke ground on the patio in July, got my dream watch in September and became boat owners in October. I am not bragging. I am proud of what we have accomplished this year. We set measurable goals at the beginning of each year and work really hard to achieve those goals. Born and raised in the traditional Asian family, achievements were expected. My parents seldom praised me and they taught me to be humble. However, I think it's very important to recognize your accomplishments in general. Recording your achievements will boost your self confidence. On the flip side, identify your weaknesses is equally important. 2018 was also the year of sharing more personal matters. I was skeptical at first but your support has made it easy for me. This space is no longer just for fashion-related content, it's my online diary. Here's a look at back 2018. Outfit details: Forever 21 sequin dress | J.Crew jacket *similar long coat here* | Valentino shoes

March Recap :: April Plans

Courtney
First, I wanted to take a moment to share our family's highlight of the month - Early March, we received a letter from Courtney's school. She has been selected by her teachers to go on an educational trip to Ecuador, South American next summer. How amazing is that? I am so so proud of her. I mentioned in this post that winning the trip to DC was just the beginning. This girl has so much potential. As someone who loves to travel, I am beyond excited for her. This experience will expand her comfort zone, broaden her horizons and most importantly, provide a greater idea of what's really going on in the world she lives in.

A look back at 2019 :: What's next for 2020?

NYEOutfitIdeas_SydneysFashionDiary
2019 is coming to an end. At the end of each year, I like to take time to reflect on the past year and set goals for the new one. While the theme for 2018 was spendy, 2019 was all about friendship. We made a few new friends this past year and continue to build trust in existing friendships. 2019 has been an extremely busy year for us. Life has always been good but I honestly think 2019 was our best year yet. Looking back on a few highlights from 2019:
- I changed jobs (not once but twice): I took a big promotion in August and was lucky to able to double my income in less than a year.
- Took 2 international trips to Aruba and Peru and 2 weekend trips to Chicago and Kentucky: We finally crossed Machu Picchu off our travel bucket list.
- Celebrated our 10-year anniversary: It may sound cliche but I am incredibly proud of our marriage and the connection we have. Life can be tough sometimes but I know we'll always have each other's back.
2019Recap_SydneysFashionDiary
- Madelyn got selected to join a competitive gymnastics team: She's doing amazing well and ready for her very first competition next week! - Courtney continues to do an exceptional job at school: Being parents, there is nothing more satisfying than having a well-rounded teenager. I don't know what the future holds but whatever she does, I want her to be successful in life.
- We welcomed little Finn to our family: I have never been a pet person. My perception completely changed after having him. He's a total sweetheart. He brings so much joy to our family. There were many accidents in the house but thank goodness, he's fully potty trained by 5 months old
- Ran 2 half marathons
- Went to a Celine Dion concert
- Finally finished our backyard: It only took 2 years lol. It's been a long journey but now, it's time to sit back, relax and enjoy it. I will share my backyard in the upcoming Spring.
2019Recap_SydneysFashionDiary-2
What's next for 2020?
I typically have a pretty good idea of what I want to accomplish for the new year. However, strange as it may sound, I don't have much on my list for 2020 and I know why. My husband and I are probably are older than most of you. We've done a lot of the hard work already. We built our dream/forever home together, we are both driving our dream cars, we have a solid work history/experience on our resumes, we have a financial plan in place, we own a boat, the kids' college funds are growing. We've accomplished a lot in the past 4, 5 years. Our goals were very different back then. We're finally at that phrase in our life where we have built a solid foundation for our future. We are not looking nor in a rush for the next big thing. We're 100% in a life maintenance mode. I still set goals and continue to strive towards but those goals are simple and easier to achieve.
2019Recap_SydneysFashionDiary-3
With that being said, below are a few things on my to-do list for 2020:
- BTS just announced their 2020 tour. No dates/locations yet but once they release the information, I will plan a family weekend trip to accommodate Courtney to the concert.
- Planning a family trip to Disney to celebrate the little one's 8th birthday. Still deciding whether we'll do Disney World/Land or a Disney cruise.
- My Dad turns 80 this November (gosh, where does the time go?), we might take a trip to California to see the rest of his family.
- Re-carpet the entire house: Our home is about 5 years old and the carpet is builder-grade carpet. Now the kids are older and the puppy is potty trained =), it's time to give it a fresh look
- Redo both of the girls bedrooms: When we built the home, the kids were still little. They didn't know what they really wanted. Now, they seem to know what they like so we're going to redo their rooms.
- We're planning a family trip to Japan in 2021 so more than likely, there won't be a big summer vacation this year.
- 2020 luxury wishlist: I have a few things in mind but nothing big. I will share my list with you in a later post.
NYEOutfitIdeas_SydneysFashionDiary
What I share on here might sound boring to some of you but my life is pretty low key to begin with. I am an open book. I don't sugar coat anything. This is my personal space to share my thoughts with you. Another year has come and gone, please know that I truly appreciate every one of you. We only get one shot at this life. Do what makes you happy. May this new year be filled with love and happiness. Cheers to 2020!

09.07.2018

BirthdayDress_SydneysFashionDiary
Today is a very big day for me. I officially turned 40 today. We're supposed to be on our way to New York right now but something came up so we postponed the trip until the first week of October. No complains from me at all. I am enjoying my day off from work. Tomorrow, we're going out with a small group of friends for dinner to celebrate my birthday. If you're a follower of my blog, you probably heard me talking about my birthday for the past few weeks. Leading up to this day, I feel really good about where things are in my life. I woke up at 4:00 this morning with an overwhelming sense of gratefulness. I started to reflect on where I am at in life, what I accomplished so far and what goals do I set for myself. Today, I am sharing something very personal to me so that you'll have a better understanding of where I am coming from. I am a true believer that life events shape our thinking, our beliefs and our personal development. It was definitely the case for me. I ended 6 years of marriage right before I turned 30. I wouldn't say it was the darkest time of my life because it wasn't. My family was very supportive and I didn't feel like I was going through the divorce myself. However, it was definitely the lowest point of my life. I won't go too much into details. Both parties have moved on. I am obviously remarried and have my own family. The other party is remarried and has his own family as well. It doesn't matter how amicable your divorce is, it's a major life event, it's painful and tiring. The divorce for sure took a toll on me. While my parents gave me their unconditional love and support, they couldn't give me any type of guidance. What I want to do with my future was 100% on me. I distanced myself from mutual friends completely. I just wanted to stay away from drama and judgments (sad but true, people will judge you). I wanted a fresh start and took this opportunity to focus on myself. Slowly but surely, I started to discover my own identity, got to know myself better, what I truly want in life, what should I focus on and most importantly, I have a clear vision of who I am. I become stronger and more independent throughout this whole experience. Things started to turn around shortly after. The past 10 years of my life were full of ups and downs, trial and errors. Looking back, I can't help but feeling great about how far I've come. I wanted to note down some of my accomplishments as well as my goals for the next 10 years (hope you don't mind the bullet points - I am a visual learner). Aruba Travel Guide :: Top 10 things to do

Today, I am sharing what we did in Aruba. I covered where to stay and how to get around the island here if you're interested.

1. Eagle Beach: If you Google "What to do in Aruba", Eagle Beach will be # 1 on the list and it's for a good reason. It's breathtakingly beautiful. Amazing crystal-clear turquoise water, a powdery soft beach to dig your toes in, and calm waves. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Pictures and words just simply couldn't describe how amazing this beach was. Did you know Eagle Beach is ranked the third best beach in the world? Notes: Even though it's a public beach, there are some costs. One way taxi there: $13, rental for 1 umbrella: $25, rental for 2 beach chairs: $20, lunch from a food truck: $40, one way taxi back: $13. Total cost to spend a few hours at the beach: $110. My swimsuit is linked here and earrings are here.

{Eagle Beach - How amazing is the water?}

2. Renaissance Private Island: I talked about this island in my previous post. This private island is a little slice of heaven. There are flamingos walking around, a spa cove, hammocks, good food and crystal clear water. What else would you ask for? Fun fact: Did you know when flamingos hatch, their feathers are actually light gray? Flamingos are pink because they eat brine shrimp which contain a red pigment. How cool is that? The Caribbean flamingo is by far the brightest and one of the largest of all the flamingos.

We booked a tour to visit the next 5 spots. I'll talk more about the tour in a second.
3. Aruba Ostrich Farm: First stop - We got to feed the baby ostriches (they don't have teeth yet). We saw the emus and peacocks up close and personal. The tour guide was very experienced and informed.

4. Natural Bridge: Second stop - Aruba's Natural Bridge collapsed in 2005 and only a small part remains, but the crashing waves and scenery are so beautiful to experience.

5. Donkey Sanctuary: Third stop - It's free to visit. You can purchase a bucket of food to feed the donkeys and they are so friendly and adorable. There used to be many donkeys on the island, but were sadly executed and Aruba was left with twenty donkeys. This sanctuary is working on safely breeding donkeys to help regain their population. They currently have 120 donkeys at the sanctuary. You can help support the cause with donations. Another wonderful visit!

6. Caves in the Arikok National Park: Fourth stop - After visiting the donkey sanctuary, the next stop was the Arikok National Park to explore the caves. The caves were very cool and interesting. You can easily walk around and go pretty far into the cave. Definitely worth seeing! The cave contains drawings from the prehistoric age many years ago that you can witness.

7. Baby Beach: Our last stop of the day was Baby Beach. If you have young children, this stop is a must. This is a perfect quiet, relaxing & gorgeous beach. There are parts that are very shallow. It’s great for kids because the ocean is calm. We brought our snorkeling equipment and were able to see so many. My exact swimsuit in pink

8. The Butterfly Farm: We spent a few hours here and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was interesting to learn how butterflies form. The guide once again was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was amazing to see so many varieties of butterflies. It costs $16 per person but you can come back for free for the rest of your vacation.

9. Natural Pool: This is the one thing that we couldn't do. We wanted to book an ATV tour to the natural pool but Madelyn is still a bit young for that. For liability purposes, you have to be 12 or older. The natural pool looks incredible. If you don't travel with young children, I highly recommend you look into this excursion.
10. Shopping: There is no shortage of high end stores in Aruba. The Renaissance mall has all the designers you could imagine. We're talking about Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Cartier, Rolex...As for prices, they're about the same as what you can find in the U.S. However, if you're a tourist, you do not have to pay a 6% general sales tax. The only exception I found was Gucci. Their prices were about 10% cheaper.

De Palm Tours: I wanted to take a moment to share my personal experiences of the tour with you. As mentioned above, we wanted to do the Natural Pool Off-Road Adventure but couldn't since Madelyn is not old enough. We settled for the Baby Beach Off-Road Adventure and I am so glad we did. At first, I wasn't sure if the tour was worth it. We paid almost $500 for the 4 of us. However, I am happy to report that it was worth every penny. It was an open air Jeep ride and the kids had a blast on this off-roading adventure. It was a fantastic and exciting way to see a lot of this wonderful island. Our guides were knowledgeable, fun and caring. Courtney had a small cut on her finger and he went out of his way to take care of her. From the minute they picked us up from the hotel to the minute they dropped us off, they made sure that we got everything that we needed along the way. This was a highlight of our trip and I would highly recommend anyone to go on this tour and see all the great sites Aruba has to offer.

It was our first time in Aruba and we absolutely fell in love with this little island. So much that we're thinking about owning a vacation home there one day. Let's just say it's a goal/dream. It might happen or it might not. Coming back after an amazing trip, I feel motivated to work harder so that we can have more opportunities to travel the world with the kids. We're already thinking about our next tropical vacation to the Turks & Caicos. If you've been there before, I would love to hear your thoughts. My husband and I are so looking forward to our next trip to Machu Picchu, Peru to celebrate our 10-year anniversary in less than 8 weeks!
